FAQ

How can I register for the conference?

For students based in the UAE, including NYUAD students, the application process for Round 2 is now live! The application can be accessed here and will be accepting responses until October 1st for non-NYUAD students

(If you’re coming to the conference from out of the UAE, please see further information for international students below).

Who can attend?

We welcome applications from university students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and those have graduated within the past two years, pursuing any discipline from around the world to collaborate with us at PHTT 2019.

Non-participants are individuals from all age groups and disciplines who won’t be part of the teams designing the interventions but will still be given a chance to attend lectures and workshops alongside the participants. If you are interested in attending as a non-participant please email us at nyuad-phtt@nyu.edu.

What does the participation fee cover?

The participation fee serves to offset some of the costs (close to 10%) associated with organizing the conference. In addition to the conference programming, all participants will receive meals on both days, merchandise including a conference t-shirt, and certificates of participation.

Should I commute to the conference from my own accommodation or secure on-campus housing?

You can do either, depending on what is feasible for you. The participant fee does not cover housing, which will incur a separate cost of 125-150 AED for on-campus housing at NYU Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island campus where the conference takes place. Bear in mind that the conference begins early in the morning on both November 1 and 2 and ends late around 8 or 9 pm on November 1 specifically.

Is an in-depth knowledge of the issue a pre-requisite for attending the conference?

Not at all! We believe the best interventions arise from cross-disciplinary cooperation, and we will provide extensive pre-conference preparatory material along with mentoring and lectures during the conference. We highly encourage students from non-medical and non-health backgrounds to apply. In the past, we’ve had students from computer science, engineering, social research, public policy, economics, etc.

I am an international student. What should I keep in mind when applying?

We will continue to accept international applications until the end of August on a rolling basis. You are welcome to apply here. Participants will be expected to secure their own necessary entry requirements (visa, transportation, etc.) for the UAE, so we advise you to apply as early as you can. Information about housing is provided above. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.

My question is not listed in the FAQ. Who do I contact?

We would love to hear from you through our contact form or email us at nyuad-phtt@nyu.edu.
